Now, as far as the situation in the low class brothels where the prostitutes cater to Thai men, I believe there may indeed be circumstances of sex slavery. Many of the girls are indeed sold by their own mother and father, if you can believe that - to brothel owners in exchange for a loan. The loan is paid back by the girl who works for the brothel owner as a prostitute. She works under very poor and uncomfortable conditions and in many circumstances, is not free to come and go as she please. These, of course, are horrid conditions and I would be the last to condone such events. But as already stated, what takes place among the low class prostitutes has nothing to do with tourism. Therefore, it is not our concern or responsibility, as tourists, to deal with such events. Sad as they may be.
