Chapter 2
Welcome to Bang Cock!
Bangkok airport, there will be money exchange booths inside the airport terminal. Second, there will be money exchange booths at the major red light districts, such as the Nana Entertainment Plaza (right across the street from the Nana hotel, open till 9 p.m. daily) and Patpong. Third, if you're in Bangkok, there are several money exchange booths on Sukumvit road. One is across the street from Soi 8 (near the Crown hotel), right outside at the parking lot entrance to the Ambassador hotel (and another exchange booth right across the street at the Bangkok bank). The Robinson's department store (Sukumvit, Soi 17) has an exchange booth right at the entrance (outside). Thai Farmer's bank, Soi 4 has an exchange booth. If you're in South Pattaya, they're all over the main strip, especially along Beach road. Just walk around and you'll see them. Or ask anyone, especially a tourist. Most people are glad to help out.
It is suggested you exchange your money in the daytime. You don't want to be in a situation where you find yourself flat broke late at night and all the exchange booths are closed. Typically, the booths close by 9 or 10 p.m. Most are open 7 days a week, from 9 p.m. to 9 p.m. Exchange your money early, in the afternoon. (If you do run out at night, of course, you can always exchange money at the hotel).

As for credit cards, you can get cash advances (for Visa and Master card) at the money exchange booths. You will need to bring your passport as ID. Before you leave your country to vacation in Thailand, be sure to check with your credit card company to make sure your balance is paid off. I once was late on a payment right before I left for Thailand and when I went to do a cash advance, my card declined. You don't want to be in that situation while you travel. Usually 10,000 baht (about $250) on a Visa or Master card as cash advance should last you through the day (unless you are taking more than one girl per day and doing a lot of shopping). When you do a cash advance, they pay you in baht, Thai money.

KEY POINTS

Exchange at least $200 at the Bangkok airport when you first arrive in the country. Exchange booths are located right inside the airport terminal.
