AB: Are all these
real disco's or are they brothels?
MH: They are real disco's. Sure, you can always finds hookers
in any disco worldwide, but let me ask you this. Do you know of
any disco's where you can meet virgins?
AB: In the states, none that are of age (laughter)...
MH: Go to the Music Box in Angeles City (Philippines) and,
I'm not joking, you can meet women in their late teens and early
twenties that are still virgin. Some of whom, if you are lucky,
you can take home and sleep with. The point being, when you disco
hope in Asia, you can meet all types. These disco's are a gathering
place, just like in the states, for people. However, meeting virgins
in the Philippines, there are several major differences you will
find in the disco's in Asia which you rarely find in the states.
AB: What is that?
MH: Probably the most noticeable thing you will find, whether
it's Tony's disco in Thailand, the Music Box in the Philippines
or Martini's in Cambodia is the ratio of women to men. Women often
out number the men, so much so that you might feel you are the only
guy on this planet. I know that for me one of the most frustrating
parts of bar hopping in the states was the fact that guys always
seemed to out number the women. As a result, to meet a girl at a
disco in the states, you usually had to stand in line and wait.
It always seems there was some other guy who was younger, more handsome,
richer and more aggressive than me (and he too often ended up going
home alone). However, in the disco's like Angel's in Bangkok, every
guy takes home a girl and even if anyone goes home alone, it's the
woman, not the guy. That's the way things should be, if you ask
me.
AB: Mac, can you describe for us exactly what goes on in
the disco's in Asia? Are they set up the same as in the states?
And how does one go about meeting the women?
MH: Interestingly, most of the disco's, whether in Thailand,
Cambodia or the
Philippines, play American music. Mostly what you will hear in the
disco's, such as Music Box in Angeles City, is what you will hear
on MTV I want my MTV At the Marine Bar and Tony's in South Pattaya,
Thailand, the music tends to be more progressive
though, while in the Music Box they play more rap. As for the scene,
most of the disco's in Thailand I mentioned are frequented by tourists
and Thai ladies. In other words, the Thai women who are interested
in meeting the tourists come to Angel's in Bangkok, and the Marine
Bar and Tony's in South Pattaya. Same with Martini's in Cambodia.
By the way, I should mention, if you do go to Martini's, be sure
to take a taxi back to your hotel, not a motorbike. There have been
a series of robberies at gun point aimed at tourists on motorbikes.
If you use a car taxi, you should be okay.
AB: So most of the men at these disco's will be foreigner's
and the women local?
MH: For the most part, yes. In Angeles City though, you will
find mostly Filipino men at the Music Box, many of whom come to
pick up on the local Filipina girls. This can be a problem as the
Filipino's don't like the foreigners picking up on their women and
can get quite jealous. So the Music Box, although normally packed
out with a lot of women, can be a somewhat dangerous place. This
will not be the case in Thailand where things are quite secure and
safe.
AB: So how does one go about meeting women in these disco's?
MH: Well, this was another point I wanted to make about the
difference between trying to meet women at bars in the states and
in Asia. I know from my past experience, girls chasing in the states
was nothing less than a lesson in humility I don't know why women
in the states go to disco's, but whatever the reason, I always felt
the last thing on their mind was to meet guys and go home with them.
In Asia, it has been nothing less than a pleasure to be able to
simply see a gorgeous woman you like, smile at her and within seconds
she is waving you to come over to sit with you. Next thing you know,
she's introducing you to all her other female friends and as they
drool over you, you are in the wonderful position of deciding which
girl you will be taking home for the night. It's that simple. There's
no magic to it. Or actually, I should say there is magic because
when you come to the disco's in Asia, you will be surrounded by
so many friendly and hot looking babes, you will kick yourself for
not traveling the orient earlier in life. It's an incredible experience
you don't want to miss out on.
