There are lots of countries you can go to in search of your Asian-bride-to-be. For me, I married with a beautiful girl from Vietnam. My partner from Dexterhorn Productions married a really cute girl from the Philippines (see his book, "How to Bring your Filipina Fiancée To The US" dexterhorn.com). Another close friend of mine married a Thai babe and the guy who originally introduced me to travel in the Orient married a Korean sweetheart. The point being if you asked each of us which country is the best in the Orient to find yourself an Asian bride, we'd all have a different answer. The fact is there are lots of countries one can go to find Mrs. Right.

While it's true one can easily find true love and romance in the countries of Vietnam, Korea, Thailand, and other places, I think we can narrow it down to just one country as being the easiest when it comes to wife hunting in Asia. That country would be the Philippines. What makes the Philippines such an easy country to find a wife? And what about my friends who married women from other countries such as Thailand or Korea, not to mention myself who married with a woman from Vietnam?

The first major difficulty you will come across in searching out the Asian bride of your dreams is time. Most likely you still hold a job and the amount of time you have to travel is very limited. What that means is you will probably only have a few weeks of travel to find the bride you are looking for. Unlike myself, who lived in Vietnam for over a year, or my friends who each spent years living in the country where they met their wives (Korea and Thailand), you probably won't have such a luxury of being able to spend so much time in the Orient. As a result, you will need to go to a place where it's so easy to find a woman to marry; you could easily do so in just a matter of weeks, or even days. ( But we suggest to take as much time as possible to choose a wife when you go there.) Such a place is none other than the Philippines. What is it that makes the Philippines such an easy place to find a wife?

First of all, the Filipina women themselves dream of marrying with an American man. They dream of falling in love, getting married, and raising a family with an American guy. It's difficult to pinpoint the reason why Filipina women find American men so attractive, perhaps they themselves don't even know the answer, but suffice it to say that it's a fact. Eric Dexter's wife Linda will say the reason why She preferred to marry an American man is because she felt that they are always so caring, sincere and very loving, which attracted her the most. If you are an American guy, regardless of your age or looks, you will be sought after for marriage by more than a handful of willing Filipina women. In fact, expect the whole town to be knocking on your door when they discover an American is in town looking for a Filipina bride.

Filipina women dream of living in the United States. If you've done any traveling to the Philippines and seen what horrid conditions they live in, you'd see why they want to get out. To them, if we could use a simply analogy, the Philippines is hell, America is heaven and you are an angel from heaven ready and able to transport them to a "better place". I don't think one could ask for better credentials than that when looking for someone who'd be interested in marrying you.

If you've traveled around the Orient to such places as Thailand, Indonesia, Korea or Vietnam, you know you will encounter severe language gaps. Few girls from such places speak much English at all and therefore, trying to find a wife among a crowd that can't even understand the phrase; "Will you marry me?" is not going to be an easy task. While it is true in such places as Vietnam, you can meet a ton of women who would hop at the chance of being your bride, dating these women and conquering the language barrier takes a lot of time. And as we said already, time is what you have little of. Now, in the Philippines, you will find many girls who speak English quite well. I can guarantee you, every single one of them will understand the English phrase, "I love you" and "Will you marry me?" Indeed, such girls fantasize of one day meeting Mr. American Prince Charming who would utter those magical words. Do so and watch how many girls will be standing there with a big, "Yes, I do!" on their faces. Let me give you one real life example.

When I traveled to Cebu city in the Philippines a few years back, I met this really cute girl named Elsa. She had just graduated from college and her English was probably, grammatically speaking, better than mine. On the first date, I had taken her and her cousins to lunch (true Asian virgins always require an escort when you date them). From there, she invited me to come to her house to meet her family. Now get this. Within ten minutes of meeting her parents, her father was already inquiring about the wedding plans (to my surprise, of course). Had I accepted, I could have married with this beautiful college graduate within a day of meeting her. Such an experience is not uncommon in the Philippines. How often during my travels I would run into women just like Elsa who within just a few days or even moments of meeting them were ready to get down to business…the business of love, romance and marriage, that is. This is what the Filipina women are all about.

So, if it's that easy, exactly how does one go about finding women in the Philippines? Where does one go? How do you approach the girls? The fact is it's so easy you could just show up in the Philippines with a big smile on your face and by letting a few women know you're a single guy looking for true love and romance, you will begin to attract a whole town full of anxious girls. For starters, once you arrive in Manila, take a private taxi up to Angeles city (see our video, "Travels to Angeles" for full details). While it's true Angeles features primarily bar girls working the sex industry, the fact is many of these bar girls are not prostitutes, but simple girls from their hometown village hoping to fall in love and marry with an American. More than a handful of these "bar girls" are even virgins and if I were to consider looking for a wife myself, this is exactly where I would go to begin my search. Check out Angeles at least for a few days and you will face a virtual city full of girls who could only dream of spending the rest of their life with you.

Another approach is to join a pen pal club before visiting the Philippines. Give my partner Eric Dexter a call (818-888-2021) or send him an email dexter@dexterhorn.com and he can recommend some of the more honest pen pal services. Once you have developed a few pen pals in the Philippines, you can go visit your newfound friends and from there possibly end up with a wife. Most of the girls you will meet in the pen pal magazines are from Cebu city, the marriage capital of the world. Your chances of finding a wife there is like fishing in a barrel. Regardless of what approach you use, you'll find the Filipina women extremely friendly and more than eager to find an American husband just like yourself. Remember one thing: most Filipina girls are more anxious to marry with you than you are with them. While you may be at home depressed and frustrated that your social life is far from what you'd like it to be, know that a thousand girls in the Philippines would give anything to change that. Understand that and you're on your way to finding the woman of your dreams.

BRINGING HER BACK

So what happens when you travel to the Philippines (or any other country in Southeast Asia) and you've found the woman you'd like to bring back with you to the states. How do you get her back? Can't you just put her on a plane and bring her along? Or maybe just send her a plane ticket to visit you for a few weeks? I wish it were that easy.

Unfortunately, immigration laws in the United States have been formulated to make it as difficult and tedious as possible for you to bring a wife from a third world country into the USA. While immigration officers would say the laws we have are necessary to screen out certain people from entering the United States, that does not justify delaying an American citizen from bringing his wife with him into the so-called "land of the free". I see no basis whatsoever for anyone telling an American citizen, "Sorry, but your Filipina wife cannot come home with you tonight", yet that is exactly what the immigration laws are set up to do. Racism in its purist form!!

So how exactly does one go about bringing a girl from, for example, from the Philippines into the US? There are five basic ways a Filipina woman can enter the United States:
a)On a Spousal visa (in which she legally marries with an American in her own country)
b)On a Fiancée visa (in which she is engaged, but not yet married, with an American) c)On a Tourist visa (in which she intends to only visit the US as a tourist)
d)On a student visa (which she plans to attend school in the US
e)On a work permit (in which she is hired by a company to work in the US).

The fastest and easiest way to get a woman you love into the US is on a fiancée visa. The fiancée visa is one in which you state you are engaged to your woman and intend to bring her into the US where you will marry her. The visa allows her to stay in the US for a maximum of 90 days. You must marry her within that 90-day period or her visa will expire and she will have to go back to the Philippines. The fiancée visa cannot be extended. This 90 day visa is actually an elaborate "tourist visa" giving you and your girlfriend the chance to see if you are both compatible together.

IMPORTANT NOTE: IN ORDER TO BRING YOUR FILIPINA FIANCEE TO THE U.S., YOU MUST PROVE THAT YOU AND HER HAVE MET AND HAVE AN ON GOING RELATIONSHIP. YOU CANNOT WRITE TO A GIRL AND BRING HER HERE.

Once you have met your girl in person and both of you have decided to marry each other you can apply for a fiancée visa application by going down to your local INS office. After you fill out the application you will send it in with a check for $95, which is the fee to apply as of Jan. 2001. Fees always change so check with the INS before you send in your payment. You then fill out the application I-129F and have your fiancée fill out her part, then mail it to the address on the application as indicated. It will take anywhere from 30-60 days to get an approval letter from the INS. Once you are approved your papers will be sent to another processing office and after a few months your papers will be sent off to Manila to be processed further. A few weeks after that she will receive Packet Three and will have to fill out some more forms and send those in to the US Embassy in Manila. A few weeks after that she will receive Packet Four which will have her Interview Date and medical appointment inside. She will have about a month to get her medical exam completed before she has to show up for her interview. At the interview she will be asked to produce an affidavit of support (promising you'll support her when she enters the US), which you will send her before she shows up for her interview. At the interview she will be asked to show photos of the two of you together, answer some personal questions about you, and show letters of correspondence between the two of you. Most importantly, she must not state that she works in a bar and especially that she ever worked as a prostitute. If she does, her visa will be denied.

From the time you first fill out the application to the time she boards the plane, expect a period of a good four to six months. It may take longer if there are complications with her getting a passport (she'll need a certified copy of her birth certificate to get that). It's best you secure her passport while you are in the country with her.

So what about doing a Spousal visa? Why not marry a girl in her home country and bring her in as your legal wife? You can but the process takes longer (immigration laws being hard at work keeping man and wife separated for as long as possible!).

The fiancée visa is the fastest means of getting her into the country. Undoubtedly, you are wondering when she arrives if she will get "Americanized" and what are your chances of the marriage surviving? This is a complex question and one I hope we can address in a future discussion. In the meantime, remember, while you may be sitting at home depressed that your love life has given you possibly a bum steer, remember this: there are thousands of Asian women out there who would give anything for an opportunity to marry a guy just like you. All you need to do is get up off your couch and travel the Orient. It's a place where the words "lonely" and "sexually frustrated" do not exist. Happy travels and happy marriage.
