Another `60 Minutes' Apology on a Drug Smuggling Story

For the second time in four months, CBS's "60 Minutes" has made an on-air apology regarding a report about drug smuggling. This time it's over a memo that turned out to be "bogus". For more info on this story go to: mapinc.org/drugnews/v99.n413.a03.html

Mac Horn wrote a letter to 60 Minutes, after the show, asking them why they lied on T.V. claiming they took his tour and used his guide when in fact they didn't. Why didn't they say they took G&F Tours? Here is 60 Minutes answer in their return letter (paraphrased):
"It doesn't matter whose tour it was, yours or G&F Tours. You both run sex tours and if we took your tour instead, you would have done the same thing."
Really! Facts don't matter? How does 60 Minutes know Mac "would have done the same thing" if they never in fact did take his tour? I thought the purpose of the show was to REPORT WHAT FACTUALLY HAPPENED, not guess what the producers of the show GUESSED what MIGHT have happened. Obviously, in this case facts don't matter and 60 Minutes knows in advance what would have happened on a tour they never took. Do I sense an ego problem here?
One last thing before I conclude this chapter. If the segment, "R & R in Southeast Asia," produced by Sixty Minutes, had anything to do with saving underage children, male or female, then why didn't we see any phone numbers or addresses of where to write or call to help and send money to the proper organizations. If 60 Minutes were to make any apologies this time, it wouldn't be to Mac Horn, it would be to all the girls they used and humiliated on international T.V. for the sake of having one of the most highly rated shows in their history.
