SARS: This subject deserves a board, specially for those travelling to Far East. Have just read un-published report of a number of cases in Canada, specially Vancouver, where there is a large new immigrant population from The Orient, who still travel back and forth |

I am glad that Nevada still allows legal prostitution. Ther is no reason to outlaw the act of sex for money. |

Nevada has never legalized prostitution. They just let their counties decide for themselves whether or not to allow it under specific circumstances. Clark and Washoe have passed ordinances against all prostitution. I believe the rest of the counties have allowed it to continue under strict supervision in specified locations (for instance, most of the houses are at least a little ways away from populated areas). Prostitution without supervision (such as with streetwalkers, escorts or in massage parlours) is still illegal everywhere in Nevada. This does two things. It does give you a source of legal sex in the United States, but it also jacks up the prices because of all the government oversight. |

For starters, let's get one thing straight here... it is NOT ILLEGAL to be an escort in ANY STATE of the USA. There is NO LAW in the USA that forbids anyone to be paid as a companion for their time. It is important to understand the technical terms without confusing people. So being an Escort is LEGAL in any state of the USA... technically speaking, as long as no girl solicits you for sex... which is why most escorts NEVER solict you for sex nor discuss it until after they are paid (well, the smart ones at least.) Headshot is somewhat incorrect on his facts. In Nevada, the state did pass a law and prostitution is LEGAL. The state did, in fact, legalize this. He is correct in some aspects though, as it is up to the counties to participate in it or ban it, but the state did in fact LEGALIZE prostitution. This confuses many people because they do not know how and why this works. So here it is: The state of Nevada legalized prostitution -- but it is ONLY legal in counties where the resident population is less than around 150,000 people. I do not know the exact number, but it is around 150,000. From this point, the state recognizes that each county is allowed to govern their own county on whether or not they choose to participate in prostitution. If a county does NOT participate and has banned it, then it is illegal. They must file to the state of Nevada stating this though... otherwise, it is perfectly legal because the state supercedes the legal activity if no papers have been filed. Remember, Nevada has made it legal ONLY in counties of less than around 150,000 residential population. So, this is why prostitution is illegal in Las Vegas, because their resident population is far greater than 150,000 -- and it is also why you can drive 20 minutes to the next county and it's legal (in most cases if the county has legalized it) -- because many counties outside of Las Vegas have a far less population. It varies -- but I assure you, the state has made it legal. If a woman solicits prostituion in a county that fits the law of Nevada, and the county she solicits suddenly arrests her and says "You can't do that here" but has not filed their papers with the state to ban it, then she gets off and she can sue the county for arresting her. The best thing to do is look online and see if the county banned prostitution. If it filed its papers with the state banning it, then leave, because you will be arrested. |

Good post Vegas. I know the exact workings of the Nevada law have always been a bit fuzzy. Anyone who wants to know where prostitution is legal in Nevada (but wants to avoid the research) can just buy the book, "Cathouses of Nevada" (I believe that is the title) for sale in gift shops all over the state. It will give them the scoop on every brothel in the state and tell them which counties have banned prostitution completely. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that freelancers (streetwalkers or escorts providing sexual services) or massage parlours providing sexual services are legal anyplace in the state. The only place I have seen legal prostitution in Nevada (and I have been indulging for years) is in supervised brothels. |
