The currency in the Netherlands is the guilder or florin (Dfl, Hfl, f, or NLG). Exchange rates are usually in favor of the American dollar, check the recent rates first. A Thomas  Cook money exchange is across the street from the Main station, and offers better rates, steer clear of others that have extra fees.

June to August are the warmest months between 21 and 26C. The air is relatively humid and fog is common in late autumn and early spring. Strong winds usually from October to March. Extreme temperatures are rare even in the winter. Its a good idea to pack for cold conditions and rain fall in the off season.
If you plan on visiting on the weekend its suggested you make hotel reservations in advance. Hotels are many but prices rise in peak season and finding a room may be difficult and expensive. Trains run often and its only a short ride from the airport into the downtown area.
Taking a car into the city center is not recommended, parking is hard to find and  garages charge a premium. It may be worth parking a few train stops outside the center and catching the next train downtown. If you are cited for a parking violation they will (boot) wheel clamp your car, plus a hefty fine.
The MAP to the right shows most direct route in RED from the main train station to the center of the Red Light District. The Green highlighted area has the highest concentration women and quality. It's still worth exploring the small side streets and alleys as things do change and you never know what you'll find.

There are 3 Red Light Districts (RLD) in Amsterdam
Main Red Light District The Wallen (Map) 350 windows,1000 women
Red Light District 2 right of Damrak about 4 blocks, Spuistraat and the Singel
Red Light District 3 Ruysdaelkade adjacent to the Rijksmuseum 2 blocks away
